About Us

Put Children First is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to safeguarding the emotional and psychological well-being of children impacted by parental separation and divorce. The organization supports equal shared parenting, cooperative co-parenting, and research-based advocacy to ensure that children maintain meaningful and healthy relationships with both parents whenever it is safe and appropriate. Through education, outreach, and strategic partnerships, the organization creates initiatives that empower families and promote child centered solutions.

The organization operates through a collaborative leadership model involving directors, board members, and volunteers who work together to provide programs, research, and community support. This leadership structure ensures a strong foundation for developing initiatives that support mental health, academic success, and emotional stability for children. Through ongoing partnerships and public engagement, the organization is committed to creating environments where children thrive.

Commitment: Approximately 10-12 hours per month

Position Summary

The Director of Public Relations serves as the organization’s ambassador for media engagement, public visibility, and relationship development. This position focuses on building awareness of Put Children First through thoughtful storytelling, strategic partnerships, and meaningful public engagement.

The successful candidate will work closely with the President and Executive Leadership Team to strengthen relationships with journalists, media outlets, community organizations, educational institutions, and public leaders across Canada.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the organization’s public relations strategy.
• Build relationships with media outlets and journalists.
• Coordinate press releases and media opportunities.
• Support executive interviews and public appearances.
• Assist with speaking engagements and conferences.
• Develop strategic partnerships that enhance public awareness.
• Monitor media coverage and identify engagement opportunities.
• Promote organizational campaigns and major initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Communications & Digital Services team.

Qualifications

• Background in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or public affairs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience developing media relationships.
• Strong networking and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to represent the organization professionally.
