About Us

Put Children First is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to safeguarding the emotional and psychological well-being of children impacted by parental separation and divorce. The organization supports equal shared parenting, cooperative co-parenting, and research-based advocacy to ensure that children maintain meaningful and healthy relationships with both parents whenever it is safe and appropriate. Through education, outreach, and strategic partnerships, the organization creates initiatives that empower families and promote child centered solutions.

The organization operates through a collaborative leadership model involving directors, board members, and volunteers who work together to provide programs, research, and community support. This leadership structure ensures a strong foundation for developing initiatives that support mental health, academic success, and emotional stability for children. Through ongoing partnerships and public engagement, the organization is committed to creating environments where children thrive.

Number of Opening: 15

Status: Unpaid Volunteer

Commitment: Approximately 10-12 hours per month

Term: 2 years (Renewable)

About the Opportunity

The National Fellowship Program recognizes accomplished professionals who are committed to improving the lives of children and strengthening families across Canada. Fellowship appointments are honorary volunteer positions offered to respected leaders who are willing to share their knowledge, experience, and professional insight in support of Put Children First’s mission.

Our Fellows serve as trusted advisors, mentors, and ambassadors. They bring diverse perspectives from their respective fields and help ensure that the organization’s work remains thoughtful, evidence-informed, and responsive to the needs of Canadian children and families. While Fellows are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the organization, their guidance plays an important role in shaping long-term strategy and public engagement.

We welcome applications and nominations from retired judges, family physicians, child psychologists, psychiatrists, educators, researchers, university professors, social workers, senior public servants, Indigenous leaders, business executives, community leaders, and other accomplished professionals who share our commitment to putting children first.

Responsibilities

As a National Fellow, you may:

• Provide strategic advice to the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership.
• Mentor emerging leaders and student interns.
• Contribute to research papers, policy briefs, and publications.
• Participate in webinars, conferences, and educational initiatives.
• Support public awareness campaigns and advocacy efforts.
• Represent Put Children First as an honorary ambassador when appropriate.
• Share professional expertise on matters relating to child wellbeing and healthy family relationships.

Qualifications

We are seeking individuals who possess:

• Significant professional experience and recognized leadership within their field.
• A demonstrated commitment to public service, education, research, healthcare, community leadership, or family wellbeing.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A collaborative and respectful approach to leadership.
• A genuine desire to support children and families across Canada.
