Put Children First is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to safeguarding the emotional and psychological well-being of children impacted by parental separation and divorce. The organization supports equal shared parenting, cooperative co-parenting, and research-based advocacy to ensure that children maintain meaningful and healthy relationships with both parents whenever it is safe and appropriate. Through education, outreach, and strategic partnerships, the organization creates initiatives that empower families and promote child centered solutions.
The organization operates through a collaborative leadership model involving directors, board members, and volunteers who work together to provide programs, research, and community support. This leadership structure ensures a strong foundation for developing initiatives that support mental health, academic success, and emotional stability for children. Status: Unpaid Volunteer
Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per month
Term: 2 years
About the Role
Put Children First is seeking a volunteer Director of Research and Policy to help strengthen the organization’s evidence-based advocacy efforts.
This role involves identifying, reviewing, and summarizing research related to child wellbeing, family transition, shared parenting, mental health, family law, and social policy.
The successful candidate will help ensure our public education efforts and policy recommendations are informed by credible research and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Review and summarize academic studies and reports
- Support the development of policy briefs and position papers
- Assist with fact-checking public communications
- Monitor emerging research trends
- Collaborate with leadership on educational initiatives
Qualifications
- Background in research, public policy, education, social sciences, psychology, law, or a related field
- Strong writing and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Commitment to objective and balanced discussion
